Description: Missile Command is an arcade game developed and released by Atari, Inc. in 1980 but the game was also licensed to Sega for the European market. The concept of Missile Command which is one of the most important games of the golden age of video arcade games is very simple. The player has to protect six cities that are being attacked by enemy’s ballistic missiles. Missile Command is played by moving a crosshair across the sky and firing a counter-missile from an appropriate battery. Launched counter-missiles explode when reaching the crosshair and leave a fireball that destroys all enemy’s missiles coming in that direction. The player can launch counter-missiles from three missile batteries each of which has ten missiles. The difficulty of the game increases with each level, while only missiles from the central battery can destroy smart bombs. During one level, the enemy’s missiles can destroy three cities only. At the end of each level, the player receives bonus points for remaining cities and unused missiles. Destroyed batteries are rebuilt between levels but the player has no control by the end of level when using all missiles. Destroyed cities are not rebuilt but a bonus city is rewarded for every 10,000 or 12,000 points.
