Description: Sonic is a platform game that developed and released by Sega for the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis system. The game which is the first in the Sonic the Hedgehog series was published in Japan, North America and Europe in 1991. Sometimes it is called Sonic the Hedgehog 1 or Sonic 1 in order to differentiate the game from its sequels as well as from its main character – the blue hedgehog. The main character of the game that is controlled by the player has to prevent the evil scientists called Dr. Robotnik (the later Eggman in the Japanese versions) from collecting powerful Chaos Emeralds he needs to rule the Southern Island where Sonic the Hedgehog and his animal friends live. The object of the game is to collect gold rings. For each 100 gold rings collected, the player is rewarded with a bonus life. The player can also collect special rings that give the main character special powers and protection from the enemies - a variety of “badnicks”, animals transformed into robots. However, these special powers do not offer protection against other obstacles along the way such as bottomless pits, traps and sharp spikes. The game has six levels all of which are split into three acts. At the end of each level the player has to face the evil Dr. Robotnik in either of his vehicles. But to defeat Dr, Robotnik and win the game you have to to reach the Final Zone.
